Okay.....UNCLE!!!!!

March 21st, 2014 at 10:44 pm

So, I can probably count on one hand all of the things in my life I have quit. One of them being my NSD endeavor! I simply cannot get away from spending. Now before you judge me as a needy man who spends and spends and spends....check it out. Everyday, due to my job and travel, I spend money on tolls or gas. Now, you might be thinking what about on the weekends. Well, I run into the same issue then as well. From running the girls around or filling up from the end of travels on Friday, I just can't seem to go without spending at the very least, five dollars. Sooooooo......I will consider other methods to save! I guess it's time to start an EF blog. I am doing very well there!

Well, you tried. I can see where that is a tough one for you. Saving for your EF is probably more important of a topic than just not spending for a day here and there.

To me NSDs are more of an exercise about being aware of where your spending goes, and whether or not they are of a priority in your life. Literal NSDs are nice too, but I say it's the awareness that is important.

ok, NSD isn't practical for your schedule. Since the point is to avoid impulse spending and develop an Emergency Fund why not re-direct the focus. Do you have a change jar? Any largish jar/contain will get you started. Make it a point to drop all change each and every night as part of your bedtime routine. I hope you can use toll cards or keep an appropriate amount of coins in your car's ashtray. Every Sunday drop a tenner for your donation to your EF. To curb impulse buying, DH had a bright red elastic band around his wallet to remind him of his goal.

What do you think? Are you willing to try something new?

Don't they have one of those toll passes in your area where you buy it ahead?

No Spend Days are meaningless, because if you wanted to make yourself look good, many people could easily shift all their spending to one or two days of the week. It's not how many days you spend or don't spend that matters, it's how much you spend, period.

Agreed with the others. The point is to become cognizant of mindless daily frittering of money (for most people it is food and retail and coffee).

If there is anything you can do to more efficiently save gas and avoid tolls, then do so. If not, then it is what it is.

I think the point is not spending on frivilous items, not on necessary items like tolls and such. You have to spend those things for employment.

If we are totally literal, then maybe none of us have true no spend days because we use lights and power, and gas that is in the vehicle already or food we have already purchased.

    Hang in there!
